Para qué sirve
This smart pressure garment provides gentle, consistent deep pressure to help ASD children with tactile sensitivity adapt to sensory stimuli, reduce anxiety, and improve emotional regulation and daily comfort.
Qué te inspiró
Inspired by the challenges faced by ASD children with tactile sensitivity and sensory overload, this project aims to create a wearable solution that provides gentle, consistent pressure therapy. Drawing from massage therapy, modern rehabilitation, and sensory integration theories, the design focuses on helping children gradually adapt to touch stimuli, reducing anxiety and improving their daily life quality. The idea originated from observing the positive effects of deep pressure on calming and sensory regulation in ASD therapy.
Cómo funciona
The smart pressure garment utilizes high-elasticity, breathable materials to provide gentle, evenly distributed deep pressure across the child's body. This pressure mimics therapeutic massage, stimulating the nervous system to promote calmness and sensory integration. The garment’s design incorporates adjustable tension zones, allowing caregivers to customize pressure levels for different body areas based on individual sensitivity. By applying consistent and adaptive pressure, the garment helps reduce tactile defensiveness and anxiety in ASD children, improving their emotional regulation and daily comfort. The seamless and ergonomic structure ensures comfort and freedom of movement, supporting prolonged wear in daily life.
Proceso de diseño
Our design process began with in-depth research into the sensory challenges faced by ASD children, focusing on tactile sensitivity and anxiety. We studied massage therapy, modern rehabilitation, and sensory integration theories to identify effective pressure application methods. The concept was to develop a wearable pressure garment that provides gentle, consistent deep pressure to simulate therapeutic touch. We selected high-elasticity, breathable fabrics to ensure comfort and durability. Multiple prototypes were created to test pressure distribution and adjustability. Early versions used uniform tension, but feedback showed the need for customizable pressure zones to better suit individual sensitivities. We then incorporated adjustable straps and modular tension areas for precise control. Prototypes were tested with ASD children and caregivers, whose feedback guided improvements in fit, ease of wear, and pressure comfort. We optimized the garment’s ergonomics to allow freedom of movement while maintaining effective pressure. Material choices were refined to balance breathability and elasticity. Through iterative testing and clinical consultations, the final design balances therapeutic function with daily usability, making it a practical tool for sensory integration therapy.
Qué lo hace diferente
This smart pressure garment stands out due to its integration of massage therapy, modern rehabilitation, and sensory integration theories tailored specifically for ASD children. Unlike traditional pressure garments that provide uniform pressure, our design features adjustable tension zones to customize pressure according to individual sensory needs. The use of high-elasticity, breathable materials ensures prolonged comfort during daily wear, addressing common issues of heat and restriction. Its ergonomic, seamless design allows freedom of movement, making it suitable for extended use in various settings. Additionally, the garment’s gentle, consistent deep pressure effectively reduces tactile defensiveness and anxiety, improving emotional regulation—benefits often lacking in existing products. These innovations make our design a unique, practical tool for sensory integration therapy.
Planes para el futuro
In the future, we plan to enhance the pressure garment with smart sensors to monitor pressure levels and physiological responses in real-time, enabling personalized adjustments. We aim to collaborate with rehabilitation centers for extensive clinical trials to validate efficacy and gather user feedback. Further material innovations will focus on improving breathability and durability. We also plan to develop an app for caregivers to track progress and customize therapy. Ultimately, we strive to make this product widely accessible, improving sensory integration therapy for more ASD children globally.
