What it does
PINTO HOME is a smart door system that lets homeowners lock or unlock their doors remotely via a mobile app. It enhances home security with biometrics and two-factor authentication, solving the need for safe, convenient, and global door access control.
Your inspiration
The inspiration for PINTO HOME came from the growing need for better home security and the rise of smart home technology. We noticed that many homeowners worry about forgetting to lock their doors or leaving keys behind. Our team wanted to create a solution that combines convenience with enhanced security, allowing people to monitor and control their doors anytime, anywhere. By integrating smartphone control and biometric authentication, we aimed to bring peace of mind and modern innovation into everyday home living.
How it works
PINTO HOME is a smart door system controlled through a smartphone app. The system uses a microcontroller that communicates with your phone via Bluetooth or Wi-Fi. When you press the unlock or lock button in the app, the microcontroller sends a signal to a servo motor, which physically turns the lock on your door. To keep your home secure, the app requires biometric authentication (like a fingerprint) or two-factor authentication before any action is allowed. The system also gives real-time updates, so you always know whether your door is locked or unlocked. If you already use other smart devices at home, PINTO HOME can be integrated to work with them, creating a connected and secure living environment.
Design process
Our design process for PINTO HOME began with identifying a common issue: the inconvenience and risk of traditional door locks. We brainstormed a solution that combines smartphone technology with physical security to provide a smarter, safer alternative. Step 1: Conceptualization We outlined key goals—remote access, security, convenience, and smart home integration. Our idea centered around using a mobile app to control a motorized lock system. Step 2: Research and Planning We studied microcontrollers, servo motors, wireless communication modules (like Bluetooth/Wi-Fi), and biometric authentication methods to determine what components would best meet our goals. Step 3: First Prototype We built an initial prototype using an Arduino microcontroller, a servo motor to actuate the lock, and Bluetooth for app connectivity. A basic app interface allowed us to test lock/unlock functions. Step 4: Iteration and Testing We improved the app interface and added two-factor and biometric authentication for security. We also tested motor strength, connectivity range, and response time. Step 5: Integration and Final Design We refined the prototype for stability, added real-time door status feedback, and ensured the system could be integrated with existing smart home ecosystems.
How it is different
PINTO HOME stands out by combining advanced security features with user-friendly smart home integration. Unlike many existing smart locks that focus only on remote access, PINTO HOME includes built-in biometric and two-factor authentication within the app, adding an extra layer of protection. What also makes it unique is its adaptability—PINTO HOME is designed to work with existing smart home systems, not replace them. It provides real-time door status updates and uses a reliable servo motor mechanism for automated locking and unlocking, all managed through a seamless mobile interface. This design bridges the gap between affordability, security, and convenience—making smart home security more accessible without sacrificing control or safety.
Future plans
Our next steps for PINTO HOME include refining the hardware for improved durability and expanding compatibility with more smart home platforms. We plan to develop a more advanced mobile app with features like voice control and access logs. From a business perspective, we aim to launch a limited pilot program, gather user feedback, and secure funding for mass production. We also plan to explore partnerships with smart home device manufacturers and real estate developers. Ultimately, we hope to make PINTO HOME a standard in home security—affordable, secure, and accessible for every smart home owner.
