What it does

Outside, the weather is sunny, the slats automatically rotate, letting in natural sunlight. The weather is cloudy, rainy, the slats close and simulate sunlight.


Your inspiration

Health problems due to lack of sunlight. The number of cloudy days per year in some cities of Russia: Yakutsk - 223 days Murmansk - 209 days People develop physical, bodily changes. Diseases occur on the background of ultraviolet deficiency (synonym: light, solar starvation), which leads to disruption of the human body as a result of prolonged absence or insufficiency of the action of sunlight on the skin. This leads to a significant decrease in performance, resistance to infections, a tendency to infectious diseases (influenza, dermatitis, rheumatism, tuberculosis, etc.), impaired mineral metabolism.


How it works

The project is a modular elements, special slats, which form the blinds. The LED strip is built in each lamel, at the same time light has the disseminating effect. A weather sensor is hung out the window, which reads out the light, weather, temperature. Based on these data, the blinds change their position along the axis, thereby adjusting the artificial light with respect to natural.


Design process

To work on the layout, UUT company, the manufacturer of roller blinds and blinds, provided me with an electric drive and manufactured a curtain. The company has manufactured and sandblasted transparent plastic lamellae. These are decorative lamellae, which are worn on the back of transparent ones. In which the LED strip was built in two shades (warm and cold spectrum). A dimmer was installed to adjust the intensity of the light flux and control the LED strip. Thanks to the electric drive, it is possible to control the opening and turning of the lamellae from the control panel. For 3D modeling, Autodesk Fusion 360 was used. For further printing on a 3D printer. Corona render was used for rendering. It was purchased 20 meters of LED strip on 12V, cold and warm spectrum. The tape was cut to a meter based on the length of the slats. A flexible speaker cable (the softest) was used to connect the LEDs. Then the cable passes through a dimmer, and is connected to the power supply, which in turn receives power from a standard 220V outlet. Thanks to such a chain of connections, it will be very easy to replace the faulty lamella, in case of its breakage.


How it is different

The novelty lies in the use of artificial light as a tool for modeling natural sunlight. Regardless of the weather outside the window, the person himself can choose what kind of weather in the house he wants. Based on weather conditions, there is an automatic correction of light and temperature, in the direction of a more sunny and warmer day. Now, people themselves are able to create in their home pinkish morning rays, instead of a gray, gloomy, rainy day. This is the light that is so necessary for people living in the north-western regions.
