Cosa fa?
Just in Time is a smart pen designed to address the needs of teachers and parents when their students and children begin the early stages of reading and writing.
La tua ispirazione
Each dyslexic person is different from another because dyslexia is not a monolithic condition. It presents itself as a "set of characteristics that each person shares to a greater or lesser extent." The project aims to identify cases requiring speech therapy or additional support in a timely manner by analyzing reading and writing difficulties during the second year of primary school. From a clinical perspective, in most cases, spelling difficulties are associated with reading disorders.
Come funziona?
Smart Pen for Early Diagnosis and Rehabilitation in the Developmental Age of Children with DSA The intervention areas include: • Analysis of skills in primary school children, which are usually assessed through paper-based tests (MT-3 and DDE-2). • The main parameters analyzed include: o Writing ability o Reading speed and accuracy o Text comprehension Initially, Justin records data from the child and then provides reinforcement exercises: • For writing tests, it records and analyzes texts to detect grammatical and spelling errors. • For reading tests, it records the child's voice and analyzes it to identify phonological errors. The pen is very simple: • It has a button to record the child's voice. • It uses traceable ink (transfers information from paper to screen). • It features a mini display for options like recording and stopping.
Processo di progettazione
The project aims to combine prevention and rehabilitation, which are essential in the diagnostic-therapeutic process for children. The process started by examining existing commercial products and studying data on DSA cases in schools. The pen’s design has been simplified, reducing components to a minimum. The shape was developed based on the natural finger posture children use when holding a pen.
In che modo è differente?
Final Project Requirements The final version of the project includes: • A screen • Two buttons (power/volume) • Traceable ink • A USB sensor for data storage • A case for support and charging The project highlights the innovation of a product that both teachers and students can use to improve teaching and learning. For teachers, it is a tool to quickly determine whether a student may have DSA. For students, it serves as a compensatory and support tool, helping them keep up with their peers.
Progetti per il futuro
Future Developments If realized, Justin will be available both for the early detection of learning disorders and as a reinforcement tool for children. Additionally, it will become an accessible device for all, similar to school-provided computers and tablets.
