Para qué sirve
L.O.O. is a flexible, mobile toilet system for urban spaces. Powered by solar panels, it uses an electrolysis cycle to turn wastewater into fresh water. Its modular design is transportable, customizable, and accessible, offering a sustainable solution.
Qué te inspiró
The idea was born out of an everyday challenge: the lack of public restrooms. They are often either in an unacceptable condition or not available at all. Public events also face a significant shortage of sanitary facilities, which is currently addressed primarily with portable toilets. However, these offer neither comfort nor accessibility, making them neither universally usable nor inclusive for all.
Cómo funciona
The closed-loop system makes these toilets fully independent of water and power grids. Solid particles are broken down through bacterial treatment, and inorganic residues settle at the bottom. The remaining liquid passes through an electrolysis reactor, converting it into sterilized, clear water, which is reused for flushing. This system allows nearly unlimited water reuse. Excess water can be used for cleaning and irrigation. Power is supplied by photovoltaic panels on each cabin. The sediment in the pre-treatment tank is pumped out every 3-12 months, depending on usage, and can be composted. The system generates no waste and uses no resources, supporting a circular economy.
Proceso de diseño
In the design process, I aimed to create a balance between my main themes: transport, accessibility, the technical system, and hygiene. These aspects were essential and needed to be considered equally in my design. Additionally, it was important to me to show appreciation for the user and provide transparency about the system. The toilet should be easy to find in urban spaces and deliberately stand out from its surroundings.
Qué lo hace diferente
The toilet uses a new system that allows it to be set up anywhere it is needed, with modules that can be arranged to satisfy all user groups. This makes it possible to replace existing public restrooms, offering greater flexibility and ease of use. The system operates autonomously, thereby saving resources. The L.O.O. toilet provides users with comfort and aims to show appreciation for a basic need that is currently insufficiently available.
Planes para el futuro
I would like to further develop the toilet system and collaborate with engineers and scientists to refine the technical aspects, making the concept truly feasible in public spaces and improving the issue of public restrooms.
