Para qué sirve

Clean and affordable water to everybody in terms of production and design. The ceramic filter is an ancestral and effective way of filtration. The ease of maintenance of this ceramic filter allows people to drink, store, transport, and share clean water.

Qué te inspiró

The lack of usable products that really are focused in the user´s experience, in a wide range of facts like their behavior, context, economics and not just filtering the water, but a full system that allows the user to collect, transport, filter the water and the ease of maintenance in terms of cleaning the product and also the filter.

Cómo funciona

It is simple, Vital is a water filtration system that incorporates a solid and bacteria/virus filter. The low-cost ceramic filter made of a mixture of terracotta, nopal, activated carbon, and colloidal silver that avoids bacteria´s reproduction and filters up to 1,000 liters of clean water. It works as simple as a syringe, absorbing dirty water filtering it up to 98%. Vital, filters, collects, stores and transports water that grows according to your needs from 500 ml up to 1000 ml capacity.

Proceso de diseño

The project was the answer to a real problem that has been in Mexico for a long time ago and La Rosita, a small community in San Luis Potosi was my case of study. Then I started to make my research in water, the use, and information to realize if the diseases were the result of chemical waste or the viruses and bacteria in the water. Then the analysis in which the people were involved, a journey map was applied to identify their activities and behavior as well as a pain points analysis to innovate in the design field. After that, I was able to identify the features and requirements of my project. Some sketches started to take form and then the use of cardboard to make rapid prototypes to validate scales and measures. At the same time, the ceramic filters were prepared and get into the oven to see the reaction of the material with different temperature, after that, I tested the pressure needed to filter the water through the filter. Sketching-prototype-test, that was a complex and iterative part of the project. Finally the right use of colors and shapes according to the manufacturing process that was by injection molding. The design of this product was a real challenge and was possible thanks to engineers, doctors, my teachers, and especially to La Rosita´s population.

Qué lo hace diferente

The lack of usable products that really are focused in the user´s experience, in a wide range of facts like their behavior, context, economics and not just filtering the water, but a full system that allows the user to collect, transport, filter the water and the ease of maintenance in terms of cleaning the product and also the filter.

Planes para el futuro

The main idea is to make this project possible and accessible to all populations, that is why this project is going to be open source including the compounds and receipts to develop the ceramic filter and the other components. Everybody deserves clean water.
