What it does
An intelligent companion robot with a friendly design, blending harmoniously with home environments, Its functions include a smart pill box to enhance basic medication assistance, plus attractive features .
Your inspiration
The elderly members of the family have been living alone at home since their last surgery. They feel lonely and have no one to talk to. Video calls via mobile phones might disturb their children's lives. Therefore, out of concern, they have come up with the idea of creating a more caring, safe, healthy, and joyful living environment for the elderly who live alone in the future. Moreover, the popularization of this technology can to some extent reduce the burden on family members and lower the reliance on social care resources.
How it works
Dual-switch wake-up: pull cord and touchscreen. The familiar pull cord switch makes elders feel more intimacy and familiarity, triggering emotional resonance. The body has a smart pill box, assisting elders in reasonable planning and classification of medicines, and reminding users to take pills. The pill box has multiple compartments for storing different types of drugs, such as tablets, capsules, liquids, etc. The smart pill box can record users' drug intake and analyze it to optimize the medication plan. An external robotic arm helps elders with difficulty getting up at home, providing better support. It can also help elders pick up cups, embodying the principle of humanized care. The bottom of the robot is equipped with a floor-cleaning robot, assisting elders in cleaning the home environment. The bottom structure can support the weight and size of the floor-cleaning robot, allowing it to enter and exit unobstructed.
Design process
robot adapts to users: visual expressions show more joy with favorite topics; sounds recall preferred tones or nicknames; mechanical arms learn gestures like gentle pats when users are tired, fostering a sense of understanding. Over time, users see the robot not as a machine but as a confidant or family member. Its rabbit charm, warm multi-sensory interactions, and personalization embed it into daily life, transcending cold technology to become a companion sharing joys and sorrows, creating lasting emotional ties. In short, this rabbit-inspired robot merges emotional design’s dimensions through its appearance, interaction, and personalization. It captivates visually, delights in use, and forges deep bonds, truly being an essential companion, with the warmth of friends and family nearby.
How it is different
When designing an intelligent companion robot, the three dimensions of emotional design—instinct, behavior, and reflection—must be considered. We formulate emotional design strategies from appearance, functional interaction, and personalized experience to align design principles with users' emotional needs. This means the robot should be visually appealing, offer pleasant interactions, and build deep emotional bonds over time, becoming an important life partner. This smart robot combines a rabbit image. Starting with visual expressions, sounds, and mechanical arms, it sequentially showcases visual, auditory, and interactive elements, fundamentally simulating the bionic design of a real rabbit. It imitates rabbit ears with some mechanical styles. The rounded appearance is a design highlight, making it graceful and more approachable, as if friends and family are nearby.
Future plans
With improved living standards and shifting elderly care concepts, demands for elderly services now go beyond material needs, focusing more on diverse care experiences. In exploring the needs for such robots, limited research samples due to scenario constraints mean user studies need deeper exploration. As an emerging product, companion robots will gradually integrate into social elderly care systems with time. They’ll let the elderly enjoy tech-driven convenience, higher-quality care, boost their happiness, and promote social harmony.
