What it does
Soft diets lead to insufficient chewing, causing dental issues. This oral health device for kids promotes chewing, gum health, and proper tooth alignment through fun, scientific design.
Your inspiration
I have decided to address the issue of children’s oral health, particularly the abnormal development of the jawbone and dental problems caused by insufficient chewing exercise. The idea originated from observations of children’s behavior and preferences. I have designed a device that combines oral health training with entertainment, simulating real chewing movements and providing immediate feedback to motivate children to actively participate, helping them develop good oral health habits.
How it works
This children's oral health trainer uses sensors to detect chewing. When a child chews, the device signals a connected toy to pop up or make sounds, offering instant feedback. It records chewing data, viewable via an app, aiding parents and doctors in monitoring oral health. The design is grip-friendly and easy to clean, motivating kids to chew and improve their oral health while having fun.
Design process
This children's oral health trainer evolved through five stages: identifying target users, preliminary design focusing on shape, size, and functions, prototype creation using 3D printing, design improvement based on feedback, and modern design emphasizing functionality, aesthetics, and user experience. The iterative process, guided by prototype testing and user feedback, led to a scientifically sound and engaging product that promotes oral health while being fun for children.
How it is different
My design stands out for its unique integration of dental monitoring and toy elements, creating a fun yet effective oral health training solution. The device provides immediate feedback through a built-in blowing toy, records chewing count and force, and allows data viewing via a mobile app. The easy-to-use and clean design, considering children's habits, uses eco-friendly, non-toxic materials, and undergoes rigorous safety testing. This combination of interactivity, data monitoring, ease of use and cleaning, along with strict safety standards, offers a unique and effective solution that helps children exercise their chewing muscles and promotes oral health while having fun.
Future plans
My design's future lies in tech upgrades, enhanced interactivity, data analysis, social features, and expanding user groups. AI will offer personalized training, while games and stories will boost engagement. Data feedback will provide professional advice, and social functions will enable group training. The design will also cater to teenagers and adults, addressing a wider range of oral health needs, aiming to create a more professional, engaging, and personalized product to benefit more people's oral health.
