STREAMYST Vybe

Streamyst Vybe is an innovative Extended Reality (XR) fashion phygital system designed to bridge the socio-emotional gap on digital (livestreaming) platforms.

What it does

Streamyst Vybe is an XR fashion phygital system that blends physical wearables with dynamic digital overlays, allowing creators to "wear their vibe." It boosts real-time identity expression, deepens audience engagement, and elevates livestreaming experiences.

Your inspiration

My journey began exploring digital fashion and XR as emerging technologies in media and entertainment. I identified a major challenge in livestreaming: as audiences grow, up to 80% become passive after minimal interaction. This “improv theatre with an invisible, growing audience” revealed a key problem, loss of genuine connection. I aimed not just to use XR and digital fashion for visual appeal, but to address this social detachment and enable authentic, meaningful engagement between creators and audiences in real time.

How it works

Streamyst Vybe combines physical wearables with real-time digital fashion overlays that respond to audience input during livestreams. At its core, the system links a game engine like Unity to livestream platforms, capturing live interaction data such as likes, comments, or emotional spikes in chat. This data flows to a microcontroller, triggering physical effects like LEDs embedded in a modular accessory called the “Vybe.” On-screen, motion-tracking software anchors digital wearables to the streamer’s body, allowing expressive, customizable outfits that change live. As engagement rises, both digital and physical expressive wearable react, giving streamers real-time, emotional feedback and viewers visible impact on the stream.

Design process

The design process began with academic and expert interviews in Antwerp, exploring digital fashion’s role in emerging media. This revealed the livestreaming disconnect, echoing the metaphor of an “improv theatre with an invisible, growing audience.” I strategically reimagined livestreaming as an “Interactive Improv Theatre with an Engaged Ensemble.” This top-down strategic vision was combined with a bottom-up co-creative process involving streamers from diverse backgrounds. These collaborations revealed core user needs, expression, engagement, and content elevation, that shaped the emotional and functional goals. From this, Streamyst Vybe emerged as a phygital proof of concept blending real-time digital fashion with physical feedback. Iterative testing with streamers and their audiences refined the experience, validating Vybe’s potential as a powerful tool for connection and creative self-expression.

How it is different

Streamyst Vybe transforms audience interaction into a tactile, emotional experience by merging XR fashion with physical feedback. Unlike basic chat overlays or reaction counters, it makes engagement physically felt. Synchronized LEDs in the wearable allow streamers to experience audience sentiment live on their bodies, creating a direct emotional connection impossible with digital-only tools. More than technology, Streamyst Vybe is a new medium for authentic expression, enabling creators to “wear their vibe” and inviting audiences into an active, co-creative role. By combining fashion, technology, and live emotion, it sets a new standard for interaction in digital and physical spaces.

Future plans

My ambition is to evolve Streamyst Vybe from a proof of concept to a market-ready product embraced by streamers globally. This includes refining the modular ‘Vybe’ accessories and optimizing software integration for multiple platforms. To secure funding and validate market interest, I plan a Kickstarter campaign that will also provide valuable user feedback. This phase will help Streamyst Vybe grow into an accessible, impactful tool empowering creators and audiences to truly “vybe together.” Ultimately, it aims to demonstrate XR’s potential to transform digital connection and elevate interactive phygital experiences that go beyond streaming.
