Your inspiration
I usually pay attention to some videos related to cave exploration. I am interested in this field, so I created this product. The inspiration comes from my observation of popular products in the market. For lighting products: headlamps and flashlights have similar functions. As lighting tools, headlamps are relatively convenient while flashlights have stronger lighting intensity. Glow sticks are disposable lighting devices, which are cheap and can be used for marking or pathfinding. However, both headlamps and flashlights have two modes:
How it works
1. The positioning light is clipped to the backpack strap of cave explorers, introducing a new way to wear the lighting device. Used in conjunction with a regular headlamp, the headlamp provides spot lighting while the positioning light offers floodlighting, effectively reducing potential safety hazards. 2. The positioning function allows manual marking of recording points, calculates the straight-line distance between each point, and enables voice reporting when needed. For example: "The distance from X1 to X2 is 100 meters, X2 to X3 is 250 meters, and X1 to X3 is 290 meters, with a total length of 350 meters." This helps cave explorers deduce their position and descent depth in the cave. (It mainly achieves GPS-independent positioning through a combination of INS inertial navigation and a magnetometer, providing more professional and precise positioning for cave explorers.)
Design process
First, the preliminary stage of my project is divided into four phases: design research, market research, design concept presentation, and product usage process storyboard. In the design research phase, I mainly explained the reasons for choosing this project background. I conducted a PEST analysis and Baidu Index analysis on the keyword "cave exploration", as well as investigated the特殊性 (particularities) of cave exploration scenarios, so as to clarify the advantages of the cave exploration market and the differences between cave exploration and general outdoor scenarios. In the market research phase, I investigated commonly used equipment for cave exploration, searched for common pain points related to product functions, analyzed the main market distribution in China, and conducted competitive product research. Through this, I obtained relevant development trends, defined the product's competitive advantages, and conceived solutions. I also researched common products with related functions, analyzed their advantages and disadvantages, which helped me improve the product's functions and related technologies in the later stage.
How it is different
Product Innovation Points 1. The positioning light is clipped onto the user's backpack strap, which not only facilitates portability but also provides continuous frontal floodlighting and positioning functions for the user. 2. The base station is placed at the cave entrance after use and continuously emits light to help users locate it easily. 3. The base station can be disassembled and assembled, making it convenient for explorers to carry. 4. The switch part of the positioning light is designed with depressions and granules to distinguish it from the main body of the light. Users can switch the voice module and lighting module by touch (without vision) through the unique texture different from the surrounding areas. The auxiliary positioning method directly alleviates the problem of explorers getting lost in cave exploration without changing their existing habits.
Future plans
At present, I have completed the presentation of the electronic design scheme, and the physical conversion part is also progressing smoothly. I hope to develop the product into a usable physical object and obtain a patent for invention based on this.
