What it does
SkinEdge lntelligent Hyaluronic Acid lnjector is a high-precision injection device designed for medical aesthetic applications. This product aims to reduce the risks associated with aesthetic injections while enhancing safety and consistency.
Your inspiration
Hyaluronic acid is one of the most widely used dermal fillers in the world, with tens of millions of injection procedures performed annually. But when I first explored the medical aesthetics industry, I was struck by how technologically underdeveloped it still is. Despite the high precision and safety requirements of hyaluronic acid injections, the process remains largely dependent on the practitioner’s experience and tactile judgment. I began to ask myself: Could we redefine the safety threshold of this procedure? That very question inspired the creation of SkinEdge—a device designed not only to execute, but also to anticipate.
How it works
The SkinEdge Intelligent Hyaluronic Acid Injector utilizes an integrated sensing and control system to achieve precise management of the entire injection process. Prior to operation, doctors can preset the injection depth and dosage. The system's built-in infrared vein recognition module helps avoid high-risk areas, reducing the likelihood of accidental vascular damage. During the injection, the device continuously monitors the needle depth with a depth sensor and uses a micro-step motor to precisely administer the hyaluronic acid, ensuring stable and even dosage. Each injection is recorded, including key data such as injection time, location, and dosage, making it easier for post-procedure tracking and data analysis.
Design process
In the early design stages, our team conducted desktop research on existing injection devices, focusing on enhancing accuracy, reducing risk, and integrating intelligent features. We analyzed current hyaluronic acid injection products, identifying safety and precision shortcomings, especially given varying doctor qualifications that often lead to misplacement, over-injection, and bleeding. Through in-depth interviews with doctors and aesthetic clients, along with secondary data analysis, we identified key user needs: safety, stability, and traceability. We translated these into technical requirements and brainstormed core features, including infrared vein detection, depth monitoring, dosage control, and data traceability. We then explored technical solutions, sketched multiple design concepts, and, after iterative prototype testing and refinement, finalized the current design.
How it is different
Compared to existing injection devices, SkinEdge is the first to integrate a series of digital-assisted injection features, including infrared vein recognition, injection depth monitoring, and precise dosage control, significantly enhancing the safety and accuracy of the injection process. Additionally, the product is designed with ergonomic considerations, optimizing grip comfort to ensure that doctors remain comfortable during extended procedures. Unlike current injection devices that typically use disposable syringes, SkinEdge features a design that only replaces the needle, reducing usage costs and effectively minimizing material waste, aligning with environmental sustainability goals.
Future plans
This product requires more comprehensive design feedback and iteration. Therefore, in the future, we hope to begin with clinical validation and co-creation with doctors, collecting feedback and optimizing the design. We will collaborate with aesthetic institutions for product pilot programs, and if the pilot is successful. Subsequently, we aim to establish a consumables subscription system and a post-treatment data service platform to create a long-term revenue model, further enhancing user loyalty and product influence.
