What it does
SEYLO is a gamified shopping app that helps users make eco-friendly choices by solving the problem of product awareness and motivation. It uses rewards, challenges, and community engagement to make sustainable shopping easy, fun, and rewarding.
Your inspiration
The idea for SEYLO was inspired by the rising urgency of climate change and our desire to make sustainability more actionable in daily life. During our research, we found that although many users want to shop sustainably, they face barriers like lack of awareness, difficulty identifying eco-friendly products, and limited motivation. We noticed that gamification through rewards, challenges, and social engagement has the power to drive consistent behavior change. As a team of designers passionate about user-centered solutions, we created SEYLO to transform sustainable shopping into a fun, rewarding, and community-driven experience.
How it works
SEYLO makes sustainable shopping easier and more engaging through gamification and smart recommendations. Users can browse eco-friendly products organized in categories. Each item is verified for sustainability to help users make informed choices. App uses AI to analyze shopping behavior for personalized suggestions. For behavior change, SEYLO includes gamified features like challenges, rewards, and progress tracking. For example, completing eco-friendly purchases earns points, badges, or discounts. Users can join group challenges or check leaderboards to track progress with friends. The app shows their overall impact, helping them stay motivated. App also includes a visual search option—users can click or upload a product image to find sustainable alternatives. A clean, intuitive interface ensures a smooth user experience, and real-world incentives like cashback and discounts make eco-conscious choices more rewarding and practical.
Design process
Our design process followed a structured yet iterative approach. First, the empathize phase, conducting qualitative and quantitative research through user interviews and surveys. This helped us uncover key pain points users struggle to identify eco-friendly products, find sustainable shopping expensive or inconvenient, and lack motivation. In the define phase, we made user personas, empathy maps, and journey maps to understand our target users. Based on the insights, we developed a clear problem and goal statement that guided our design decisions. Ideation phase, we brainstormed multiple solutions and explored gamification strategies like points, levels, and social challenges. We organized features using card sorting and built a user flow to map the journey through the app. In the design phase, we created paper wireframes to quickly test ideas. These were refined into low-fidelity digital wireframes, and finally into a high-fidelity prototype using tools like Figma. We focused on creating an intuitive UI, using clean layouts, calming colors, and typography. In testing phase, we shared the prototype with users for feedback. Based on this, we improved onboarding clarity, simplified navigation, and added features like visual search. The app continues to evolve with user insights.
How it is different
SEYLO stands out from other shopping apps by seamlessly blending sustainability, gamification, and community into one unified experience. While many apps either focus on eco-friendly products or gamified experiences, it combines both to make sustainable shopping not only accessible but also fun and rewarding. Unlike typical shopping platforms, it verifies each product for sustainability and offers personalized AI-driven recommendations based on user preferences. What sets it apart is the gamified system users earn rewards, unlock levels, and participate in challenges, making eco-conscious choices feel like achievements rather than sacrifices. It emphasizes social engagement, allowing users to join group challenges, compare progress with friends through leaderboards, and build a community around shared values. This combination of features educational, motivational, and social makes it more than just a shopping app; it’s a movement towards conscious consumerism.
Future plans
Our next steps for SEYLO include developing a functional mobile app with AI-powered personalized recommendations and verified eco-friendly product listings. We plan to launch a beta version for real-world user testing and feedback. On the business side, we aim to build partnerships with sustainable brands and explore affiliate marketing, reward-based collaborations, and in-app features for revenue. Our goal is to create a strong community of conscious shoppers and make sustainable shopping simple, engaging, and mainstream.
Awards
SEYLO was awarded 3rd position in the national-level design competition held at IIT Roorkee, recognizing its innovative approach to sustainable shopping through gamification. The project stood out for its user-centric design and impactful concept, gaining appreciation from industry experts.
