What it does
Revival Face is a comprehensive solution for patients with facial paralysis that integrates wearable monitoring hardware and interactive software systems to help patients with facial paralysis better monitor themselves and perform muscle exercises.
Your inspiration
My grandmother is a patient with facial paralysis. I found that her recovery process is very long and inconvenient. As a designer, I hope to use my power to help her alleviate the inconvenience and pain during the treatment.
How it works
In order to solve the problem of independent rehabilitation exercise for facial paralysis patients at home, I designed a wearable flexible electronic patch to collect electrical data of facial muscles, and help patients to carry out specific auxiliary massage on the lesion area through vibration. At the same time, based on mirror movement therapy. Using unity's facial motion capture technology, the mobile phone camera captures the patient's facial movements and visualises them into the face model of the software platform, helping the patient to better perceive the degree of movement of their facial muscles.
Design process
In order to design a product that can monitor facial muscles, I first tried to use basic Arduino to make a prototype. During the test, I found that there were too many lines and it was difficult to achieve lightweight. So later I tried to shrink the circuit board and make a silicone film as a base. I used glue to stick the tiny circuit board prototype that can achieve Bluetooth transmission to the silicone film. However, during the test, I found that due to the weight of the circuit board and the hardness of the material, the prototype was difficult to fit the human face and was easy to fall off the face. So I finally used flexible electronics to make a prototype, which can be quickly connected to the electrode patch through a metal buckle, and the electrode patch is tightly adhered to the human skin.
How it is different
Flexible electronic chips and soft, skin-friendly silicone materials are used to achieve a fit effect on the face. The connector designed for the muscle electrode patch can be quickly connected to the disposable electrode patch through a metal buckle Using unity's facial motion capture technology, the mobile phone camera captures the patient's facial movements and visualises them into the face model of the software platform, helping the patient to better perceive the degree of movement of their facial muscles. Later, a game-based interactive mechanism can be integrated to help patients with facial paralysis perform facial muscle exercises.
Future plans
Continue to improve prototype testing and realize wireless Bluetooth signal transmission. Rely on the Unity platform to develop interactive games and software mechanisms for patients with facial paralysis, and motivate them to continue to exercise their facial muscles in an entertaining way.
