multi-support desk lamp

A desk lamp that can be supported on a computer and normally placed on a desktop is composed using modular and splicing technologies

  • This refers to the conventional form of direct-illumination fixtures assembled

  • This refers to a form composed of three modular components assembled together

  • Individual edge module

  • The form where two edge modules are combined for desktop support

What it does

This modular spliced desk lamp can be mounted on a computer screen or placed on a desktop. It solves the problems of cluttered desktops and the space occupied by desk lamps

Your inspiration

Personally, my desk is often cluttered. When I finish my homework at night, I usually have to make space for the desk lamp. To make it easier to use the desk lamp and still be able to see the computer screen, I came up with the idea of designing a bracket on the computer screen and adding a desk lamp to the bracket. This way, there's no need to make space for it, and the efficiency of using the desktop can be improved.

How it works

The modular upper part of the luminaire is divided into two types. One is the extended middle section, and the other is a part with a bracket that serves as a support. Overall, they can be assembled into a whole and placed above the computer. The rear part of the luminaire is rotatable, allowing adjustment of the rotation angle. Each luminaire is independent and can be adjusted to different directions. This product can also be placed on the desktop, using its bracket and luminaire parts as supports. The middle section of the luminaire functions as an expansion module, offering more optional designs.

Design process

The initial design omitted considerations of modularity, featuring an integrated structure with an excessive number of mechanical components. This not only rendered it overly complex but also compromised its aesthetic value and practicality to a certain extent. The subsequent introduction of modular design brought about a significant reduction in mechanical controls. Compared with the first version, the revised design presents a more modern style, with numerous intricate elements and sharp edges removed. In terms of functionality, the angle of the desk lamp is now adjustable. Breaking away from the original fixed single direction, a controllable range has been added. Moreover, the lamp body and the bracket have been separated, which enhances their independence and facilitates the realization of modularization.

How it is different

This product features an innovative design that allows it to be supported on a computer, making it more convenient for users who spend long hours on computers while saving more space. For students living in dormitories, it is affordable as it doesn't come with a high price tag, helping them make better use of their desktop space. Conventional lamps usually have only one way of being placed, but this product offers multiple support methods, providing more freedom of choice and more options when it comes to placement. In its normal placement state, thanks to its modular design, there are more appearance options available. Compared with regular desk lamps, it is more flexible and convenient.

Future plans

The future development of this product will focus on the following aspects: adapting to more computer sizes by adding mechanical structures for size adjustment; introducing modular designs with more shapes and freer splicing methods; collaborating with various large IP projects to launch more customized appearances; conducting in-depth cooperation with laptop manufacturers to design better-fitting sizes and add more options for brightness as well as cold and warm lighting; and integrating with other smart home devices to achieve greater intelligence and convenience.
