MEDERMAS is an AI-powered skincare tool that uses face scanning, dermatologist insights, and personalized reports to help users track and improve their skin health from home. It offers affordable, accurate, and multilingual skin analysis and care guidance.

Your inspiration

My inspiration came from personal struggles with skincare misinformation on social media. Influencers promoted products with unrealistic claims, leading me to spend money on items that damaged my previously clear skin and caused lasting acne. Seeking help from a dermatologist revealed inconsistencies—affordable products worked better than the expensive ones she later prescribed. These experiences exposed a gap in accessible, honest, and science-backed skincare guidance. I realized the need for a reliable, affordable, and tech-driven solution that empowers users with accurate insights, sparking the idea behind MEDERMAS.

How it works

MEDERMAS works by combining AI, face-scanning technology, and dermatologist expertise to provide personalized skincare analysis at home. After booking an appointment, users scan their face using their smartphone camera under specific lighting conditions. The software then analyzes key skin factors like moisture, elasticity, pigmentation, and acne using advanced algorithms. User lifestyle details—like sleep, diet, and skincare habits—are gathered through a guided conversation with an AI-powered assistant or friendly dermatologist. This data, combined with the scan results, is used to create a personalized report with clear insights and product recommendations. The app also sends routine reminders, offers animated tutorials on how to apply products correctly, and tracks skin improvements over time.

Design process

The idea for MEDERMAS began with a personal pain point—navigating misleading skincare advice online and ineffective treatments. I started by researching common skin issues, existing apps, and the pain points users face in traditional skincare routines. This led to the concept of a reliable, AI-assisted tool that empowers users with accurate skin assessments at home. The first step was wireframing and mapping the user journey, focusing on a simple, intuitive flow from face scanning to receiving a report and product recommendations. I designed an initial prototype using low-fidelity UI tools to test layout and features like booking, scanning, and report delivery. I then created a working prototype that includes: A face scan module (mobile camera + guided lighting conditions) AI-driven skin analysis (mock data) Report generation and basic skincare suggestions Currently, the prototype is functional but the UI needs refinement for smoother navigation, better responsiveness, and enhanced visual clarity. My next steps are to improve the design interface, integrate real-time dermatologist support, and test with real users for feedback. Each iteration has brought more clarity, improving both user experience and reliability of results.

How it is different

What makes MEDERMAS unique is its human-centered blend of AI technology and dermatologist collaboration. Unlike competitors that rely solely on AI or ask users to self-report their skin issues, MEDERMAS uses a face-scanning system combined with friendly, guided interviews conducted by dermatologists or AI assistants. This ensures accurate data collection and deeper understanding of lifestyle factors. It also includes multilingual AI support, allowing users to express concerns in their native language—making skincare accessible to a broader audience. Additionally, MEDERMAS goes beyond just diagnosis by offering prescription-based product recommendations, animated application tutorials, and daily reminders to build healthy skincare routines. Most importantly, it bridges the gap between affordability and professional-grade skincare advice—all from the comfort of home.

Future plans

The next step for MEDERMAS is to refine the UI for a smoother user experience and integrate real-time dermatologist consultations. We plan to enhance the AI to improve prediction accuracy and expand the face-scanning capabilities. On the business side, we aim to launch a subscription model offering routine checkups, product bundles, and priority support. Our goal is to become a trusted, affordable skincare companion that empowers users worldwide to manage their skin health confidently and effectively.

Awards

I presented Medermas at NSIC and Startupedia ’25, receiving strong feedback from experts, including Prof. M.J. Ramakrishna at IPE Hyderabad. I was awarded a certificate at Startupedia and participated in the NSIC workshop, with validation on the project’s potential.
