What it does
Solve the dilemma of high cost and inefficiency of traditional coral restoration: move the color block map to locate the diseased reef, sound to attract juvenile fish to return to the nest,
Your inspiration
Witnessing the global coral reef drop by more than half in 30 years, we reflect on the high cost and inefficiency of traditional restoration. Inspired by the acoustic homing of juvenile fish, the concept of "ecological chain self-healing power priority" was proposed: satellite and ROV dynamic perception and positioning of lesions; Soundscape guidance simulates the sound field of a healthy reef to attract juvenile fish; Pheromone capsules stimulate the instinct to clean fish. The gamification design of mobile phones turns public mobile phones into "emergency signal transmitters",
How it works
The operation of CoralGuard technology is divided into three layers: 1. Dynamic perception layer: Satellite and ROV cruise data are fused to generate a "coral planet map", and the red/orange/green color blocks are used to mark the bleaching rate of diseased reefs in real time; 2. Ecological intervention layer: soundscape guidance plays the sound field of the healthy reef through the underwater speaker array to attract juvenile fish to return to the nest, and at the same time, pheromone capsules are deployed, and degradable sustained-release capsules are used to accurately deliver them, and coral-ketone-like substances are released to guide the clean fish to snipe at diseases; 3. Crowdfunding driving layer: Users receive the location of the reef through the App, trigger the virtual task of "sonic transmission" or "capsule delivery" (the completion is linked to the physical device),
Design process
The evolution of the technology is as follows: in the conceptual stage, based on the pain point of high cost of artificial transplantation of coral restoration ($1.2 million/ha), the principle of "natural self-healing priority" is proposed, and the dual-core intervention path of soundscape guidance (juvenile homing) and pheromone (clean fish) is established; The prototype V1 includes a perception layer (buoy sonar satellite data to generate a static reef map with an accuracy of ± 100m), a soundscape module (a single speaker plays a broadband sound field, and the response rate of juveniles is only 35%), and a capsule (the PLA shell is manually delivered, and it takes 30 days to degrade); Key iterations include: 1. Dynamic map upgrade, integrating ROV cruise image and AI whitening recognition algorithm, and improving accuracy to ±5m (red/orange/green real-time color block); 2. Breakthrough in the soundscape system, using phased array speakers, the response rate soared to 83% (measured on the Great Barrier Reef); 3. Capsule optimization, calcium alginate sustained-release carrier, 48-hour degradation and targeted release; 4.App lightweight, gamified tasks are bound to physical device commands (the user clicks → the sonic emission delay is < 2 seconds).
How it is different
Subverting the three paradigms of coral restoration:1. natural compensatory artificial, soundscape navigation (phase array 120-900Hz) activates 83% homing rate of juvenile fish Pheromone capsule (calcium alginate targeted sustained release) replaces artificial disease removal, making the ecological chain the main force of restoration; 2. Dynamic scalpel positioning, the accuracy of the color block map (red/orange/green) that integrates ROV images and AI is ±5m, which is higher than that of satellite monitoring, and realizes "minimally invasive intervention on sick reefs". 3. The cost of crowdsourcing revolution, users directly connect to the sonic wave/capsule device through the gamification task of the App (command delay <2 seconds), the cost per hectare has plummeted, and the public participation has increased. The essential difference lies in the abdication of human beings from "transplanters" to "ecological signalmen" and the autonomy of coral
Future plans
Plans for the next three years:1. Biochip sonar fusion whitening prediction AI, early warning 14 days in advance; 2. Added acoustic attachment module for coral larvae, with a larval survival rate of 50%; 3. Establish a global crowdsourcing "Coral First Aid Alliance" and cross-platform scheduling; 4. Push the standard of "ecological signalman" to reduce the cost by another 40%, and finally build a "coral brain" self-healing network, and human beings only guard the trigger right.
