AIURA: Personalized Foundation Dispenser

AIURA is a smart foundation dispenser that analyzes the user's skin condition and environmental data to create a customized makeup solution for each day.

  • Users choose 4 of 9 cartridges; each has a lab-style design with beaker-like measurement marks.

  • A glass window shows active cartridges clearly and opens for easy, hygienic maintenance.

  • Extra cartridges can be stored in a separate compartment on the left side of the device.

  • The USB-C camera connects to a phone and app to guide users through skin analysis.

  • Foundation is dispensed onto a palette for hygienic mixing, tailored to daily skin condition.

What it does

AIURA diagnoses the user's skin condition using a detachable camera module and combines it with real-time environmental data to dispense a custom foundation blend, solving the issue of inconsistent makeup results.

Your inspiration

The idea for AIURA emerged from personal frustration with how makeup often fails to adapt to daily skin changes caused by stress, sleep, hormones, or climate. Many users apply the same foundation daily, unaware that their skin's needs are constantly shifting. Current products lack real-time personalization. Recognizing the increasing demand for data-driven self-care, I saw an opportunity to create a device that treats makeup not just as a beauty product, but as a tailored, adaptive solution for skin health and appearance.

How it works

AIURA is activated by a power button and uses a detachable skin diagnosis camera based on a push-push mechanism. This camera connects directly to a smartphone via the charging port (USB-C), automatically syncing with the AIURA app. The app analyzes real-time skin data—such as tone, texture, oiliness, or dryness—and combines it with environmental factors like temperature and humidity. Based on this information, AIURA calculates the ideal foundation blend using four installed liquid cartridges. The cartridges are visible and resemble lab beakers, reinforcing the theme of a personal skin lab. Once the blend is decided, the user receives a freshly dispensed, customized foundation for that day.

Design process

The concept began by identifying a gap in how daily skincare and makeup fail to reflect users’ changing skin conditions. I explored how internal and external factors—such as weather, stress, and hormones—affect the skin and defined key metrics: hydration, sebum, texture, and environmental data. The product developed from initial sketches to 3D modeling using Rhino and KeyShot. AIURA was designed with a clean interface, modular cartridge slots, and a compact body inspired by lab equipment—supporting the concept of a “personal skin lab.” Users can choose 4 of 9 cartridges: [Color – Light / Medium / Dark], [Corrector – Peach / Green / Purple], [UV – Sunscreen], and [Texture – Multi-balm / Essence / Powder]. The cartridge design features angular forms with beaker-like markings to enhance the lab-like aesthetic. The digital model is complete, and I am now building a mockup. Key improvements included ergonomic usability, simplified interaction (camera detachment, USB-C sync), and easy cartridge replacement. The internal layout was optimized to hold four cartridges, a detachable camera, and a hygiene-focused transparent window.

How it is different

Unlike typical foundation products or devices that offer only static skin tone matching, AIURA provides daily customization by integrating real-time data. Existing solutions either rely on manual questionnaires or general tone detection, while AIURA measures dynamic skin conditions and environmental variables in one step. Its modular cartridge system, inspired by scientific lab tools, enables real-time blending for immediate use. The use of a smartphone-connected diagnosis module also eliminates the need for bulky devices or separate scanners. This compact, intelligent beauty device transforms foundation from a fixed product into a responsive daily solution—bridging skincare, technology, and personalization in a uniquely interactive way.

Future plans

Next steps include building a working prototype to validate sensor accuracy and improve foundation blending precision. I plan to conduct user testing to refine UI/UX and iterate on cartridge material for hygienic and refillable use. Eventually, I aim to integrate AI learning into the app, allowing AIURA to suggest skincare routines or alert users to skin anomalies. The long-term goal is to commercialize AIURA as a personalized skincare ecosystem that supports beauty tech and sustainable cosmetic use.
