What it does

Aerolis is a compact cordless vacuum that simplifies cleaning by integrating all nozzles into its body. No more stopping to swap attachments - just switch between built-in nozzles instantly, making everyday cleaning quicker, smoother, and more convenient.

Your inspiration

The idea for Aerolis came from common frustrations observed during user research. Many users shared how stopping mid-clean to find and switch nozzles disrupted their routine. Most said they avoided using attachments altogether because they were hard to access or often misplaced. This feedback highlighted a clear need for a more intuitive solution. Inspired by this, Aerolis was designed to integrate all essential nozzles directly into the vacuum body, making it easy to switch between them without stopping. By addressing these real user pain points, Aerolis offers a seamless, efficient cleaning experience tailored to everyday needs.

How it works

Aerolis is a battery-powered handheld vacuum cleaner designed to make cleaning faster & convenient. It runs on 12V rechargeable battery, consumes just 60W of power, and delivers suction of 8000 Pa - ideal for everyday use. What makes Aerolis unique is its built-in nozzle system, operated through a simple sliding mechanism. The idea was inspired by multicolor pens, where different tips pop out with a click. I reimagined that concept into vacuum design where multiple attachments are stored inside the body. Users can slide out the needed nozzle-like brush, crevice tool, flat head - without stopping to find or attach anything. Each nozzle locks securely into place during use and slides back in when not needed. It also features a HEPA filter that traps fine dust, allergens, and pet hair, helping to purify indoor air. The dust bin opens easily with a single press for easy emptying. Aerolis is designed to simplify daily cleaning while offering smart functionality.

Design process

After identifying the common frustration of having to switch attachments during cleaning, I began exploring ways to make the process smoother and intuitive. I started ideating different concepts and arrived at the idea of integrating all the nozzles into the vacuum itself using a sliding mechanism. Once the concept was defined, I created a basic prototype to test how the mechanism might work. The initial prototype helped me understand the practicality of the sliding function and how it could be improved. I then developed a more refined 3D-printed prototype, keeping in mind the internal arrangement of components while maintaining a compact and ergonomic form. This version allowed me to test how the sliding nozzles fit, moved, and locked into place. I focused on refining the user experience, ensuring that the movement felt smooth and that each attachment was easy to access and store. Throughout the process, I gathered feedback and iterated on the design to improve ease of use and comfort. While many handheld vacuum cleaners exist, none currently offer a built-in, slide-out nozzle system. Aerolis stands out by solving a real, everyday problem with a design that combines convenience, simplicity, and innovation.

How it is different

Aerolis is different from other vacuum cleaners because it eliminates the need for separate, detachable nozzle attachments. It features a built-in sliding nozzle system, unlike most handheld vacuums that rely on separate, detachable attachments. Instead of stopping to find and change tools, users can simply slide out the desired nozzle from the vacuum’s body. This makes the cleaning process faster, smoother, and more intuitive. The nozzles are always accessible, neatly stored within the device, reducing clutter and the risk of losing parts. While other vacuums focus only on suction power or portability, Aerolis combines those with a user-first design that rethinks how attachments should work. It fills a gap in the market by offering true convenience.

Future plans

As a student, my next step is to improve the prototype by making it more reliable and easier to manufacture using right materials. I plan to continue user testing with peers and mentors to get honest feedback on usability and comfort. Based on this, I’ll refine the design further. I also want to explore design competitions, exhibitions, or incubator programs to gain exposure and guidance. In the future, I hope to develop Aerolis into a practical, user-focused product and possibly collaborate with startups or manufacturers to take it closer to real-world production. The long-term goal is to establish Aerolis as a user-focused cleaning solution.
