What it does
It helps us not to forget getting medicine in time. So someone who has disease like cancer can use it well. Also, since it vibrates, it helps blind person to use it easily.
Your inspiration
My grandmother takes her medicine every day, but there are times when she forgets to take it. Also, when I catch a cold, sometimes I forget to take my medicine. For me and my grandmother, it is not a big deal to skip the medicine because it is not a severe disease. But, if the person who forgot to take medicine has diseases like cancer, it becomes a problem. So, I thought about a pill container that has an alarm.
How it works
The RemindMe smart pill container integrates both hardware and software components to ensure accurate medication adherence. Each compartment is embedded with a weight sensor and infrared optical sensor. The weight sensor detects if the pill is moved and the infrared optical sensor confirms that the lid has been opened. Only when both sensors register an event is the medication dose marked as “taken”. This dual-validation mechanism minimizes false positives due to accidental movements or lid openings without actual consumption. A built-in microcontroller unit continuously monitors sensor data and triggers the alert system at scheduled times set by the user via a mobile app. It uses LED lights, vibration motor, and buzzer. Also, the vibration motor can make a blind person use this container easily. The device features a USB-C rechargeable battery with one-week battery life
Design process
It did not take that much to the current stage. In June 3rd, we thought about some ideas and draw the sketch and in June 24th, we made the processes to the current stage
How it is different
Most commercial smart pillboxes rely on simple lid-opening detection or timed rotation mechanisms. However, RemindMe integrates both a weight sensor and an infrared optical sensor, ensuring that a dose is only marked as taken when a pill is physically removed and the lid has been opened. Also, RemindMe uses a combination of LED lights, vibration and sound to deliver alerts, catering to users with visual or hearing impairments. This triple-mode notification system is rarely found in other consumer pill containers.
Future plans
Our long-term goal is to transform RemindMe from a standalone smart pill container into a comprehensive medication adherence platform that integrates seamlessly with personal health data systems. In the next phase, we plant to develop APIs that connect RemindME with wearable devices such as smartwatches, glucose monitors, and heart rate trackers. This will enable real-time adjustments to medication alerts based on physiological data, such as blood sugar levels or sleep cycles.
