What it does
Designed for adults, it aims to reduce stress and improve energy levels for people who want to take charge of their well-being, as existing treatments may not be feasible for everyone. This creates a need for a wearable and non-invasive solution.
Your inspiration
With the growing concerns around mental health, many people may not be clinically diagnosed with anxiety or stress but still experience their effects in everyday life. The idea for this project came from observing how common it has become to feel overwhelmed, even without a medical label. This led to the thought of a non-invasive product that would let the user independently control their life, slow down, find calm, and regain balance in the fast pace of modern life.
How it works
It is a flexible headband designed to target key areas of the head that are most affected during anxiety and stress. It is envisioned to use 3D knitting technology, which allows the integration of wires and microcontrollers within a soft, fabric-like material. It includes three main therapies to promote relaxation. First, light therapy uses specific wavelengths of light that shine gently through the front of the band towards the eyes, helping to calm the mind. Second, air pressure therapy provides gentle massage and vibrations around the head and neck using grooved pads that inflate and deflate to release pressure points. Third, sound therapy uses bone conduction to deliver soothing sounds without pressing on the ears, ensuring comfortable wear. All these features are controlled through the app, Sereno-Sense, where users can adjust the duration and intensity of each therapy, track their usage, and receive personalized suggestions for better well-being.
Design process
The design process for this project began with observing the issue closely and engaging with users to understand how they try to calm themselves during moments of stress. Many people were unsure of effective methods, but a common response was turning to simple distractions they enjoy, such as listening to music or physically relieving tension. The idea for Sereno-Band emerged through multiple rounds of ideation, sketching, and gathering scattered insights from research. Special attention was given to finding the right form, how the product would be worn, and the optimal placement of components for maximum effectiveness. While the product is currently at a conceptual and visualization stage, ongoing efforts are being made to refine its practicality and optimize it for real-world use.
How it is different
While many health-related products in the market focus on tracking physical health, very few are specifically designed to address mental well-being in a therapeutic way. It offers a holistic and non-invasive solution in the form of a wearable headband, using technologies like 3d knitting, as a way to make it ergonomic.
Future plans
Transform this conceptual idea into a functional prototype under the guidance of experts in healthcare, wearable technology, and materials science. The primary focus will be on testing its usability through real user feedback. This includes evaluating how well the integrated therapies work, identifying any side effects, and ensuring the overall experience remains comfortable and sweat-free. Testing the feasibility of using 3D knitting technology for embedding electronic components within breathable, skin-friendly fabrics. This approach aims to offer a seamless experience, in the future, while evolving with the user’s requirements.
