What it does

Nuro-Luma is a neurofeedback device that uses real-time EEG signals to provide feedback, helping users improve focus, mindfulness, and mental well-being, providing tangible feedback of your state of mind that helps you understand your progress.


Your inspiration

The idea began with my fascination for magic. While studying tricks and props, I realized they rely on deception. I wanted to create something that feels magical but is real—powered by the mind alone. This led to Nuro-Luma. Nuro-Luma came from the growing need for practical tools to manage stress, improve focus, and build mindfulness in an age of constant digital distraction. While meditation and mental training are effective, many people struggle to stay motivated because progress feels invisible. I wanted to make that journey measurable and engaging.


How it works

Nuro-Luma is a device that helps users train their minds by providing real-time feedback based on brain activity. It uses sensors placed on the head to detect electrical signals produced by the brain, called EEG (electroencephalography) signals. These signals include different types of brain waves, such as alpha waves, which are linked to relaxation, and beta waves, which are associated with focus and alertness. The device processes these signals and translates them into visual and physical feedback. As the user becomes more focused (with increased beta waves) or more relaxed (with increased alpha waves), a small disc in the device begins to levitate using magnetic forces controlled by the user’s brain activity This levitation gives users a tangible way to see and feel their mental progress, making it easier to stay motivated, improve mindfulness or concentration. By monitoring alpha and beta brain waves, into an engaging, interactive mind-training experience.


Design process

The starting point of my project was the concept of magic. I began by exploring the world of magic tricks, studying different props and techniques. I realized that most magic products are built around creating illusions—they are designed to trick the audience. This made me wonder: what if I could create something that feels magical but is pure in its nature, without deception? led me to the idea of using the mind power to make an object move. From there, the concept evolved. I researched cognitive training, and how brain signals can be translated into tangible outputs. This exploration helped me design a product that uses EEG signals to create a visual and physical response, turning mental effort into visible progress. By integrating light feedback and a levitating disc, the product makes the invisible process of focus and calmness both measurable and rewarding. This journey transformed an idea rooted in magic into a meaningful tool for mental well-being. After conceptualization phase, did extensive sketching to explore different forms for the product. After nearly 40 to 50 sketches, the physical design was finalized. At the same time, I worked on defining the product’s features. Following this, I moved into 3D modeling and prototyping, design options that led to this stage.


How it is different

Nuro-Luma stands out because it transforms an invisible process—the state of your mind—into a tangible and magical experience. Unlike most mindfulness or neurofeedback tools that rely on graphs, sounds, or screen-based visuals, Nuro-Luma combines light feedback with the physical levitation of a disc powered by your own brain activity. This makes progress not just measurable but something you can see and feel in real time. By interpreting alpha and beta brain waves through EEG technology, the device creates a direct connection between mental states and physical outcomes without deception or illusion. The use of levitation—an element that feels extraordinary yet is rooted in real science—brings a sense of wonder while serving a practical purpose: motivating consistent cognitive training. Nuro-Luma bridges technology, neuroscience, and design to deliver an experience that is as pure as it is engaging, making it unlike any other mental well-being product.


Future plans

The future plan for Nuro-Luma is to refine its EEG technology with ergonomic dry-sensor headbands, improve brainwave signal processing, and enhance the levitation mechanism for better stability. A companion app will track progress and personalize feedback. Beyond this, the vision is to create a range of cognitive training products—tools for focus, relaxation, and learning—powered by neurofeedback. The goal is to build an ecosystem of engaging, science-driven products that make mental well-being and cognitive development accessible to everyone.
