OYSFLOATER- Oyster-Breeding Raft

To deal with the pollution caused by discarded raft,we have presented an assistive design for oyster farming that incorporates three major functions: 1. sustainable development of environmental protection, 2. ease of operation and 3. intelligent management.

To deal with the pollution caused by discarded raft,we have presented an assistive design for oyster farming that incorporates three major functions: 1. sustainable development of environmental protection, 2. ease of operation and 3. intelligent management.


Your inspiration

Current bamboo oyster raft use polystyrene as the buoyancy source in cultivation.Owing to this material’s poor weatherability and short life span, there result substantial discarded oyster raft and polystyrene after annual typhoons in coastal areas of East Asian, such as Taiwan’s southwestern coast,causing serious pollution.


How it works

Modular desin for easy moving and arrangment choice and increasing anti-wave resistance.Suitable size for harbour entry and free from typhoon damage.Free assembly and arrangement depend on terrain and breeding demand. Retractable polyurethane bellows are used for replacing polystyrene to adapt the need for buoyancy regulation in the growth process of oyster strings.Decrease water resistance by lifting oyster strings for moving.Reduce occupational back injuries by lifting oyster strings during breeding and harvesting.Provide an easier way on cleansing and exposure when coping with natural oyster enemies and algae.Intelligent management devices powered by solar energy.GPS positioning and LED displays for identification can control by smartphone.Remote photographic monitoring for preventing theft and environmental observation.


Design process

We had interviewed with Oyster farmer to integrate scenario problems.Then we chose the modular unit for our project solution,and develope a lots sketching and operating process.

Future plans

We made the 1/5 scale modle now.We hope that this project will cooperate with government to make 1/1 prototype and evaluate the feasibility.To improve the environmental pollution is our goal.
