Your inspiration

Paramedics and emergency doctors are exposed to stressful situations. To provide the best medical primary care they have to manage a number of tasks accurately and simoultaneously. To research the situation, we conducted interviews with doctors and paramedics in CH and DE. It became obvious that there are significant weaknesses in the procedures of emergency services concerning the recording, monitoring and sharing vital data. Our idea was to rethink the system of communication and processing vital data. The design concept should simplify operating procedures that relieve the rescue services and improve the patient care.


How it works

The COR is a mobile ECG device which consists out of three main elements: Display, sensor box and carrying system. It is different from other compact devices by its modular design, allowing a unique way of transportation and emergency care. The removable display provides an intuitive handling and flexible monitoring even in difficult conditions like harsh wheather, confined space. The sensor box integrates ECG/defibrillator/pacer functions and has a secure HDP-Bluetooth connection to the electrodes on the patient (HDP - health device profile). The wireless connection facilitates the treatment during rescue operations and simplifies the patient transfer to the hospital. The vertical arrangement of its elements provides a clear overview. Vital data and a change in the condition of the patient can directly transmitted to the hospital. This allows for all emergency personnel in all locations to be always up to date and well-prepared for the incoming patients.


Design process

At the beginning of the bachelor thesis at the end of 2015 we had only an idea of what could be our approach and the direction of our work. Since then we spoke with various professionals and developed our idea how to overcome this challenge. The COR is a mobile ECG device concept, based on expert knowledge and experience. In the next stage we are going to show our results to the doctors and paramedics which followed and helped our process. With their support and user experience we want to pursue and develop our ideas.


How it is different

Through its unique modular design and the vertical arrangement of its elements, Cor differs from other solutions which are already commercially available. In contrast to existing ECG devices it has a wireless connection to the electrodes on the patient which allows a simplified and more hygienic treatment. Using the interface of Cor vital data and a change in the condition of the patient can transmitted to the hospital directly and more easy. An up dated and well-prepared emergency personnel in all locations is the result. Therefore Cor simplifies operating procedures that relieve the rescue services and improve the patient care.


Future plans

Depending on the inputs of doctors and paramedics which followed and helped our process, we want to pursue and develop our ideas. The next goal will be to specify our vision with user experienced support before we talk to producers of medical devices.
