Function
Mizu air purifier aims to alleviate the worries of concerned parents and individuals alike by providing clean breathable air to the indoor environment. The system redefines current air-purifying system by filtering pollutants through both True HEPA Filter and the ionic qualities of water. Particles as small as 0.01 microns that are small enough to pass through the HEPA Filter will be inactivated by these ions. Seamlessly integrated into the household with it's sleek appearance, Mizu works in silence, purifying the air inside any living space and making breathing easier.
Inspiration
Living in compact city areas, most folks do ¬ breath in fresh air like in the countryside. Closer to home, haze is one of the leading causes of air pollution in the Southeast Asia region and is a seasonal occurrence in Singapore. During this period, respiratory illnesses increase substantially and many are advised to stay indoors. Many of the air purifiers today are cumbersome, promise many functions and those that produced negative ions electrically do produce ozone as well which is detrimental to our health. I was inspired by the water's ability to produce negative ions and the idea of a configurable product that comes in units much like lego blocks.
Development
I re-imagined an air purifier as being one of the more commonly-used household products in a home such as the television, thus appearance and usability takes centerstage. The main motif of the product used is the image of water ripples to depict the purifier's natural cleansing ability. Sleek and slim, each purifier unit can be stacked up onto one another on the power dock in accordance the room size, making it cost-friendy and energy-efficient since it will only activate in the presence of air pollutants through sensors. The system is practically silent since a slim fan is used in each unit.
