Function
KeyFi is the ultimate replacement for clunky, awkward, and uncomfortable keys. The KeyFi system allows a user to use their cell phone/ or mobile electronic device to wirelessly control their devices that were once constrained by keys. The user's mobile device connects with the KeyFi responder and sends commands to it via wireless protocols. The commands an applications are limitless. For example, a car's doors, windows, and starter can all be controlled wirelessly. Applications for the KeyFi system can range from comfort to security, from automobile's to homes to places of work.
Inspiration
The inspiration for this product came from the burden of running out in the rain to close my car's windows during surprise downpours. Once I started developing and researching I realized the possibilities are relatively simple to add and essentially limitless.
Development
Basic layout of the function of the system is a using a cell phone's wireless protocol to control circuitry in an automobile. I did research on each of these areas, some new, some expanding on my current knowledge. I decided on using 802.11 (Wifi)as the wireless protocol because it is easy to come by and cost effective. The next step was to develop the control circuitry to operate my car's windows, while remaining electrically isolated from the car's ECU. The next challenge was to provide power in a safe and efficient manner. The last and final step was to develop the cellphone (Android in this case) application to perform the communication. A functional prototype was made and is a success.
