Function
Guardian is a fire extinguisher holder designed to radically improve the user experience of fire suppression. Cognitive and semantic considerations were integrated into Guardian to expedite locating and accessing the extinguisher.
Inspiration
Inspiration came from observing current fire extinguisher holders and their short comings. Through ethnographic research, it was observed that current solutions were not only ineffective, but they put the user at risk of injury. Courses in cognitive and human factors engineering informed the creation of effective design solutions.
Development
Development began with ethnographic research to define the current problem and the context around it. After this, ideation lead to the development of physical mock-ups that explored several design solutions. After user testing and evaluation, a final design was developed into a Solidworks model. From here, the model was rendered and presentation boards were constructed.
