Function

Travel pack is a design for carrying bicycle oversea or other types of bicycle traveling purpose. The design can transform from one single suitcase into two separated bike panniers. In this case, the Travel Pack provides a protection when sending your disassembled bicycle through airplane, in the mean time, when you got to the destination, you don’t need to worry about where to properly storage their suitcase.

Inspiration

I am a bicycle enthusiast, I have always been thinking about using bicycle for my main travel transportation. After investigated the process of how people transport their bicycle oversea, I felt there should be a design for more convenient traveling experience, not just packing with a cardboard box. How to properly execute the process of transporting bicycle became my main focus.

Development

In the beginning of the project, I look up the items that might be use for people who do long distance bicycle touring and traveling. Then I investigated the process of how people transport their bicycle with airplane and product that is on the market for packing bicycle. Interviewing people who had bicycle touring experience was a great help in this project; it helped me to identify the right direction and knowledge in order to move forward. I spent a lot of time on building full scale mock-up and testing it. Then I figured out most of people carry their stuff with pannier. In the end, I combined the idea of suitcase and pannier into one single form that is Travel Pack.
