Roof Pot is a product where we can plant vegetation on the roof without the changes of structure design of our roof. The dimension is same to the common roof tiles, but it can grow vegetation. The roof pot is hollow, which can put growing medium. This product can be made from composite, which is strong enough and able to resist the weather erosion. There are holes for drainage and piping system. This roof pot can absorb the rain water as the source of water to the vegetation, the excess of water will flow out from the small hole to the other roof pot or to the rain water collector for other usage. Fertilizer in form of liquid can be use to keep the vegetation healthy. Roof pot can keeping our house cool in summer, so there is no need for them expensive air conditioners to be on all the time. Saving lots of money as well as doing your part to help the environment. The most important is, it can absorb the carbon dioxide.

Inspiration

The hot weather in the country near to the equator is significant causes the high demand of electricity for cooling. The green roof is common in the west but, almost all the application is suitable for high-rise building, but impractical for residential area. If we cover a layer of membrane, a layer of insulator, a layer of roof barrier, growing medium…it will make our roof too heavy to support. This roof pot can overcome this problem. The roof pot is independent, you can choose to use how many Roof Pots in your roof or you can mix with other common roof tiles since the dimension is same. There are difficulty to put growing medium on the roof since the design are with certain degree of gradient, but the Roof pot can do this! Each roof pot contains its own growing medium which will not flow away from heavy rain or wind. Lastly, the Roof Pot is easy to maintain, take care the vegetation with liquid fertilizer, just like what you have done in the garden!

Development

As an environment friendly product, recyclable material can be chose as the main material for the roof pot like polycarbonate, polypropane. Apart from that, coconut fibre can use as main material for growing medium. This material is ecological and absolutely echo-compatible. It is ecological because its production does not need of polluting processes. It is echo-compatible because it is totally renewable, and can be dispersed in the environment without pollution risks. Being of organic origin, the product has an excellent resistance to biodegradability. . It is characterized by a light material with a high draining power, stable pH. The coir fibre has a low water absorbing power. However, its water retention capacity in weight is 300% because the retained water is essentially capillary water that is easily available for plants. Furthermore, roof pot can integrated with water piping system, which can water the vegetation in the hot season and avoid the waste of water.
